How to show on main page only categories with some icons

Hi!

Maybe not here, but please, how can I make next -

1. I have a 4-5 categories with threads in each of them.
2. I need on front page of pMachine showed only titles of each catogory and little image for each category. Then when I press to category name I have to go to this categore with all threads there.

What I have to change in code to make it ?
