CSS question from a newcomer

I’d like to reduce the font size on the line of each entry that lists the comments, trackback and permalink, but I can’t find that line either as an element of the weblog.php file or the weblog.css file. I’d be very grateful for any help in figuring out how to do this, as I’m new to working with both these types of files.

My pMachine implementation is at http://blog.holtz.com.

Down the road, I’d also like to add a right-hand column, but have had no luck with that, either.

Thanks!

Right now, if you look under Edit Template > weblog > Multi-Entry Template, you’ll see the code where that line is created.  It ought to start with something like this:

%%comments_link%%

Just wrap the entire line (the comment link, permalink, trackback link) in a div with a class applied:

<div class="footerline">%%comments_link%% ..... </div>

Then in the CSS file style it appropriately:

.footerline {
  font
-size: 0.8em;

}

For that, you really need to go with an alternate layout.  The default/sample layout that comes with pM isn’t really suited to adding a third column.  See this entry in the Knowledge-Blog.

This kinda worked and kinda didn’t. If you take a look (http://blog.holtz.com), you’ll see that it reduced the size of the number of comments and the line between sections ( | ), but not the words “Comments,” “Trackback” or “Permalink,” which remained unaffected by the assignment of the class to the line.

Hmm, that’s pretty bizarre.  No reason it shouldn’t be applying to the entire line that I can see.

Maybe go back into your Template and make sure all those links are on the same line with no carriage returns between them.

Nope, that didn’t help.

FYI, here’s the code that’s in the Weblog Entries field:

<div class=“weblog”>
<h3>%%title%%</h3>

<p>
%%body%%

%%more_link%%
</p>

<div class=“footerline”>%%comments_link%% <a href=”” onclick=“window.open(’%%trackback_url%%’, ‘_blank’, ‘width=480,height=480,scrollbars=yes,status=yes’)”>Trackbacks</a>   |  &nbsp <a href=%%weblog_permalink%%>Permalink</a></div>

</div>

I’ve dealt with it by using a simple <font size=“1”> tag. Seems to work.
