remove breaks around custom fields in weblog

I’m using 2 custom fields in a weblog and they seem to leave <br> tags that I can’t find to delete in the weblog templates.

On http://www.stjameslittleton.org/sermons/index.php you can see where I’ve got weblog_headlines showing a list of titles only.

Then I tried to format weblog_headlines_alt so that it would display in one line:

date :: link to title of entry :: custom 2 :: by custom 1

I’ve made sure there are no extra spaces or lines in the custom fields—is there a way to display those fields on the same line?

Thanks.

When you go in to edit the entry, I assume it has “auto-xhtml” (or perhaps “auto-<br />”) checked for your custom fields?  Viewing your source, it appears that the fields have the “xhtml” formatting applied to them.

Similarly, is it possible to strip a field’s enclosing tags (p or br) without changing the setting for the field in the custom weblog fields panel?

I can foresee (and am encountering) a situation where a custom field needs to be presented inline on one template and as a block on another. I found the “backspace” parameter, which could be used if there were also a “frontspace” equivalent, but that would be a little sloppy. I could also do it with CSS, I suppose, but this would really be much easier if there was a “no_format” or “strip_format” parameter equivalent? Is there?

This is a pMachine forum, etherfarmer.  For EE you could try looking at some of the Plugins such as “HTML Strip” or “Filter HTML”.

Sorry, Chris. I’ll check out those plugins.
