Well, I first posted a version of this in a tech topic and was not very clear.  So I tried a design topic, only to realize that now there are EE and PM topics ans I posted in the wrong one.  I got some help on the templates issue from somoen over there, basically saying I had <h5> tags that were causing things to look bold, but I want to ask about fonts in general.

--->Oh, my encoding is Japanese for what it is worth. i suspect that some fonts do not show up the same in a Japanese environment.<----

The original post and his response, summarized:

FONTS LOOK HARSH/BOLD/SMALLISH
Basically, in my main page
(1) http://tokyoprogressive.org/news/index.php (center column, containing entry from pmachine with a layout borrowed from commondreams.org).....

And in the actual page
(2) http://tokyoprogressive.org/news/topblog.php?id=D20040522 (layout
borrowed from indymedia).....

And in the MORE portion of the main page
(3) http://tokyoprogressive.org/news/topblog_more.php?id=915_0_7_0_M
(original pmachine layout).....

....I feel the text is too harsh (the font) and/or too small in Safari or Mozilla on the MAC
(in IE explorer in Windows it is ok, though the midddle column text in #1 and #2 above sometimes sometimes gets cut off.)

-->I GOT A PARTIAL RESPONSE FROM TOM GRIFFIFTHS
Tim Griffiths in the EE forum said, “I believe your problem is that you are using <h> tags to define some of your body text. <h5> is one pair that I can see.”

I assumed he meant the html of my page, but now I see that I have this in my template, though I am not sure he could tell that from looking at my html source.  Anyway, it is:
I checked and I found in my tempate for messages I have

<h4>%%title%%</h4>
<h5>
%%body%%</h5>/

He said

“you can remove the <h5> tag and replace them with an ordinary <p> pair.”

-----> MY QUESTION
I am a little confused if that means in my template or in my page html or both.
(I guess I can try my template for starters.  I

Is what I see in all 3 URLS above taking the font size from the html before it or from Pmachine?  And what is a nice font and font size? BIG and SMALL within the entry does not seem a very good way. Should I put something ELSE in the template and will that override what is dfefined on the page html itself.

(HE GAVE ME SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR USING INKNOISE OR EVEN EE PAGE TEMPLATES, WHICH I INTEND TO TRY, BUT I ALSO WANT TO TRY FIXING THE PM INTERNAL TEMPLATE)

Last, in the common dreams template --> http://tokyoprogressive.org/news/index.php
I see that on some machines the text actually gets cut off in the middle column.  Maybe a better template is the solution, but I am not sure.  It doesn’t do that within commondreams.org.

Thanks in advance.

Try changing your Template to be:

<h4>%%title%%</h4>

<
p>%%body%%</p>

If you want to define your text size or font family you should probably do so in your stylesheet.  See CSS font information.
