I really, really, really don’t want this to sound whiny, but I was wondering if any pM people come by here anymore?
I have posted several times in the last week or so, and had no response and I notice others have posted as well with similar results.
Is there another forum (even paid?) that we could use that might work better? I am hoping that the answer won’t be “if you want support, buy EE”, as I still can’t quite justify the price for my little useless blog….yet. Until my career as a poker player takes off, $100 is still a significant amount of money to me.
I suspect that Rick has everyone so busy, that this is, understandably, low on everyone’s priority as everyone is focussing on making pMachine a huge success. Which I sincerely hope it becomes.
.
You know, reading back on this I am not even sure why I wrote it. I do feel better for having written it, so please feel free to remove this if it is not suitable.
pMachine Pro is no longer under active development which also means that it is no longer officially supported. The forums here are intended for community/peer based support. There is no paid support option for pMPro, as pMachine’s efforts are focused on ExpressionEngine.
I would suggest that, at the very least, you switch from pMPro to EE Core, which is under active development and which does have more active peer-based support forums. Then, later, if you decide to go with the paid version of ExpressionEngine your data is already in that system and you have already become familiar with it.

Ya, I thought of that, but I don’t want to allow anonymous posting and EE Core doesn’t support member posting (which is surely intentional). The question is, is it worth $100 USD for me to get two questions answered?
I will go to EE at some point but I guess right now I will just attempt to figure things out for myself. I guess I should have done the pM Pro -> EE upgrade option in the beginning, eh?

Keep up the good work…EE looks great!!!
Like Erin, I’m not in a position to pay for software that does far more than I need it to either at the moment. pM Pro works fab for me and I see no reason to go for more at this time.
In my work as a support team member, one part of our system has been effectively ‘disregarded’ for development purposes for around 2 years now but if someone has a query/issue - we provde that person with support given that it is our system, we helped build test and implement it.
Surely someone coming in on a weekly basis to see what’s being asked for and even turn quick queries around isn’t asking too much?
While EE Core does not support the membership module, it is definitely possible to have more than one member, and restrict templates and posting privileges accordingly. You have to sign them up manually, and cannot effecitvely hide the position of the control panel from them, but for a limited numbers of users this is definitevely a feasible solution, I’ve done it more than once.
Well, honestly, I would think that if no support - or even regard - for users of pMachine are around anymore, then maybe the pMachine area should be removed from the support forums. Nothing like posting in hopes of assistance and being utterly ignored because you didn’t upgrade to another version.
Sorry if I sound bitter - I don’t mean to - but this is the fourth forum I’ve posted on (not just for pMachine - for other things, too) and I’ve been consistently and effectively ignored. Why have a forum at all if no one’s going to be here to help? It seems a waste of resources for you all, and time for those seeking the help. I understand that no one’s being paid and the program is now open-source and such - believe me, I’m sure everyone who posts for assistance understands that, and help probably can’t come for some time as it’s all based on volunter work. I don’t expect more than that. But the posters above basically just said “Buy EE and you’ll get help” - which says to me no help will ever come simply because I didn’t shell out the dough for it. If that’s the case, then just get rid of this area of the forum - don’t allow new posts, whatever, leave it for archives. This has been an utter waste of time for me, and very disappointing. Had I known that all requests for assitance would be disregarded completely, I never would have even bothered with it at all.
Much like EE Core - these forums are here for community based support. pMachine does still allow the software to be downloaded, even though it is no longer supported or updated - but that is made quite clear in its product area.
I, personally, would be unable to help with pMachine Pro. Those members that check the forums that are familiar with the software often come in and answer questions - but as pMachine Pro gets less and less use, peer-based support is going to be harder to find.
As a note, pMPro is not open source.
But, yes - Part of the basis of EE’s purchase price is the support that you get. EE Core, which is free, has fairly active community support forums, as well, which is why I suggested an upgrade to Core.

Ah…I was unaware of this. Does this mean that they still have to log in to post?
So I could recreate their accounts in EE Core and then everything would be as it is?
If that is the case then I will switch to EE Core for the interim…or at least until my rich uncle starts to pay out!!! ;=)
Erin, you’ll like EECore. Once you get past the learning curve on how to use templategroups/templates, you’ll be on your way.
NOTE: When you allow your users to post, you can set up their access to only allow them to add a new entry or to edit their existing entries. You can keep them out of the control panel backend for other things.
Lisa is right that there isn’t official support anymore. However, there is still community support for pMachine Pro. People like Sue, who replied above and several others. We leave the forums open because there is still some help available and so people can access the archives.
Why don’t suppot pMachine Pro anymore because there is a significantly better solution available and that’s what we want to encourage. Erin and ShellyC, if you’d like to upgrade I’d be happy to give you a significant discount, just and mention that you posted in this thread. Between a free version of ExpressionEngine and this discount offer, hopefully that is enough reason for you guys to make the jump. I think you’ll be glad you did.
