How about putting it in a text file and providing a link to it?

Hello - During the past two weeks my two pmachine sites have become s l o w w
as molasses. Coincidentally this has happened at about the same time that i and others got hit with a lot spam and url spaming from the .ru domian.

Other bloggers are also commenting on the hits to their servers, for eg these two recent posts:
Ben   and photodude.  Now while these two sites are not pMachine sites, I am wondering if my pM sites are affected by the problems they describe. As I said as of the past weeks my sites are basically so slow as to be useless. It takes 10 mins for the opening of myPHPadmin page! My ISP has moved them to various other VE and even allocated more CPU. But so far nothing has worked to speed them up. Just wondering ...

Check your webstats and see if there is a bot hitting your pages.  The MSN bot was hitting a couple sites at pMachine Hosting and causing major problems, so eventually they were just banned.

Still plagued by very slow response times. no sign of a MSN bot.

Tonight i found that there were a bunch of spammers lurking in this pm table: pm_nonmembers

How can they get registered there?

Spammers or spam…if we could fit some spammers into MySQL tables that would serve them right!

I suspect it is the same problem as another person, the spammers created comments for non-existent entries.

How? I thought that all “holes’ had been plugged. Hard to understand how they can add info to non-existent entries.

And why do they bother, if no one else can see their entries?

By the way today i looked at my Refer stats and found this:

12:55 members/members.php?p=register ponzanoveneto.com/members/register.php
gigabits.us

5:37 membersmembers.phpp=addcommentponzanoveneto.comcomments.phpid=6_0_1_0_c
claranet.co.uk

4:43
members/members.php?p=addcommentponzanoveneto.com/comments.php?id=5_0_1_0_c
218.32.209.33

3:47
members/members.php?p=addcommentponzanoveneto.com/comments.php?id=4_0_1_0_c
iij4u.or.jp

....etc

I assume this is evidence comments deposited into non-existent entries?

They probably created them before you updated your scripts.  The reason for doing it to non-existent entries is because once those entries are created the comments will show up since they are already in the database for those entries.

Hm, those are odd URLs.  They should create an invalid page request, since they are not a valid option.

I’m trying to update my site with the Build Pro 2.3.031 and can’t find it in the download section.  I thought I downloaded the correct files, but ended up overwriting the files I put on for Rick’s Hack on pending membership.  So where do I find the build?  Will I still have to do the Hack on the pending membership again? My sites are still being hit by spammers and I want to get the fix as soon as I can.

Thanks, Pat smile

Nevermind - I got the right files and have updated.

However, I tried doing the spam fix and get a blank page when adding the banned ip info to the bottom of my config file.  I tried putting it above the ending php ?>

Thanks, Pat smile

Make sure that when you edit the “config.php” file you don’t accidentally add any spaces or extra lines after the closing “?>”.  That should be the very last thing in the file without any spaces/lines afterward.  (Similarly, the “<?php” should be the very first thing with no spaces/lines before it.)

Ok, that worked.  But now I’m not getting Rick’s “Membership approval” to work right.  The new registration ends up showing as pending, but I’m not getting the emails or the page to tell me that that is working right.  I have gone over all the steps in Rick’s Hack, but am not being successful.  I had it right before I uploaded the new spam fix.  Can someone tell me what I need to do.

Thanks, Pat smile

If one of the spam fix files was one that you’d previously changed for that hack then you’ll have to change it again.
