replaced all pm files without backing up

I’m not the most technically knowledgeable person (amazed I ever got PMachine to work for me), so…

I did a very stupid thing—I forgot to back everything up when starting to update, and I also replaced the “images” and “script” folders, as well as the config.php. Although I believe that I replaced the correct information in the new config.php file.

When I go to pm/updates/index.php, it tells me that it cannot find the .../config.php file.

What should I do?

Also: Did I just totally lose all my posts?

Please assist, and forgive my foolhardiness.

Replacing the pm/images/ directory won’t hurt anything.  Just make sure you upload the images in BINARY format.

Replacing pm/scripts/ won’t hurt you unless you had placed custom scripts in there and deleted them.

Your entries are stored in the database, so as long as you don’t run the install script again (different from the update script) then you’ll be fine.  Running the install script, however, will wipe out the database.

Make sure your files (including “pm/config.php”) are all located in the correct place.

As far as I can tell, everything is in its correct place—I compared it to the overview of directories and files in the documentation. Config.php is in the pm folder. Unless I am misunderstanding something?

If you download the installation ZIP file, all of the files and directories inside are in the correct locations.

What is the exact message you receive when you try to go to the update script?

It says:

pMachine Update Tracker
The following file(s) could not be found:
../config.php
Please read the installation instructions and upload all components of this script.

Well, I uploaded config.php again as ASCII (it had been set to auto—I didn’t know that I should specify since I have PMachine Hosting and all of this already was set up on the server) and it still didn’t work. I then tried uploading it as binary and it worked.

But now I’m getting the following:
Parse error: parse error in /home/pmh1632/public_html/pm/updates/update_2.4.php on line 365

Try re-uploading that file (or better yet that entire directory).  Perhaps it got corrupted or didn’t upload correctly the first time.

I tried it, and the same error message appears. I also tried it by downloading a fresh copy of PMachine and re-uploading the directory.

Send me the following information in an email and I’ll take a look when I get a chance:

1. URL to this thread for reference
2. pMachine Control Panel location and login information for a Semi-Superuser account
3. Site URL
4. FTP connection information
