Hi
For the last two days I did extensive reading of all the available material on pMachine Pro which answered many of my questions but created a few new.

First of all, I would like to know official or unoffical (perhaps members) reaction on this post.

http://www.pmachine.com/forum/threads.php?id=6389_0_2_0_C

As I said earlier that I had a detailed look on the features of pMachine Pro, I would still like to get specific replies on a few issues preferably from the Admin or from senior members.

I am interested in developing a website where new writers would be asked to showcase their work to the world. What I want the site to do is:

1: Main page carries
a) 10 most newest entries
b) 10 most commented entries
3) 10 most visited entries
4) 10 most Active Users

2: Is it possible to show only the headline of articles and no blurb?
a) Is it possible to show only those 10 members whose posts get most response? Some sort of ranking or points.
3: Can members be allowed to upload their picturs/avatar?
4: Can members names be clickable (leading to their profiles) wherever they come?
5: Is it possible to automatically increase a member’s rank according to number of comments one receives? It is perhaps based only on number of posts scored by him?
6: p-Machine Pro has printer-friendly version?
7: Can we combine some other programmes to do get extra options from pmachine pro? For instance, can we do some (php.include) of a third-party rating system to get ratings for every indivudual post?
8: Any demo of pMachine Pro available for try? Like the one for ExpressionEngine?
9: Will pMachine Pro be developed further or only ExpressionEngine will get all of your attention?

I think it would be very wise the incorporate rating system into pMachine Pro as it will greatly enhance the worth of the programme. Please advice shall I go for pMachine Pro or for ExpressionEngine?

Regards

PS: One more question: Does pMachine Pro lists all of the articles of one member under his profile or the numbers are limited? (if so? can be enhanced to all the article submitted?)

I’ll see what I can answer…

1. “a.” is very simple to do.

“b.” and “c.” can be accomplished using Michel.be‘s Function Customizer add-on for pM Pro.

“d.” I assume you mean “people who’d posted the most” or “people who’ve commented the most”?  There are some add-ons to do this available elsewhere in the forums, I believe.  I know I’ve posted code for a “top members” type list in the past.

2. Yes, certainly.  You simply customize the associated Template to only show the title.

“a.” Not sure I understand what you’re after here.

3. Uploading is only available in the Control Panel.  If you want more “public” uploading then you could use a 3-rd party upload utility.  I believe there is a how-to thread where someone showed how they implemented member avatars and an upload ability step-by-step.

4. Generally, yes.  It simply depends on how you set your Templates up.

5. No, not without hacking.  You could also probably do it with a fairly simple stand-alone script if you ran it at regular intervals.  It’s not a current feature, though.

6. You can create printer-friendly versions of pages if you want.  You can also simply use an alternate CSS stylesheet to provide that ability.

7. Yes, though the extent will depend on the specific program and situation.  I know I helped at least one member ("ImportRivals" if I recall correctly) to integrate a 3rd-party rating ability for each entry.

8. Not as such, no.  pMachine Free is largely the same thing as pM Pro, though.  You’re simply restricted to one weblog and don’t have some of the extra features.  The core weblog itself is identical, though.

9. the EE FAQ addresses that question.  Currently, both programs are still in development.

10. I assume you’re referring to the list on each member’s public profile page?  If so, the number of links shown is user-definable.  You can also choose to display either entries they’ve created or entries upon which they’ve commented.  You simply use different tags.  Or display both.
