http://ghostdroppings.dreamhosters.com/pm/install.php

Hey guys, for some strange reason I get this error, I have no idea if that is a server issue, if the mysql database isnt correct, the knowledge base says something about php errors being reported too high or something I changed that variable to zero, I also tried changing the database connection type and that didn’t work either. Any ideas on this because I am stumped!! I am also using pmachine pro 2.3.

Please help I dont know what else to try, I am trying to simulate this version of pmachine so I backup the database, install expression engine and make sure everything crosses over properly so I can edit the templates and what not. It’s for ghostdroppings.com, but I need to simulate the version and everything before I just go installing expression engine without knowing what will happen if I upgrade it. Should I check to see if I have read write edit drop permissions on mysql?

Do you already have a pMachine database set up?

What do you mean by simulate the version?

Okay so basicly ghostdroppings.com wants to upgrade to expression engine. They have backed up the database and I have it. But before I go upgrading it to expression engine they set me up with temp hosting so I can figure everything separatly before I actually upgrade for real. So I was going to install pmachine, add the database, than convert over to expression engine. But I cant even get pmachine to install, I am not sure if I have read, write, drop etc. But I am not allowed to create any databases because they created one for me. So I am trying to find out if that is the issue, or what. The only reason I am doing it is to make sure I don’t screw up the whole site and database, so I am doing everything as a clean install to what I call “simulate,” as if I were really doing it. To see if there are any problems first before I convert it for real..got it? But I cant even get it to get to page two, I had no problem installing it on my own hosting, but I cannot restore the database, because my own hosting doesnt allow for phpmyadmin, and they charge $75 dollars to restore a database which is crap. So they set me up with temp hosting and phpmyadmin, so I can do all that. But I cant even get pmachine pro to install on their hosting because of the errors.

Sorry, but you don’t need to install pM Pro if you’re going to switch to EE anyway. Just install EE, and use the import utility to import the pm Pro data.

Thanks Ingmar

but see the thing is, I could install expression engine but Ghostdroppings.com is running 2.21 of Pmachine Pro. I dont know if it is possible to install expression engine with that version, I read it needs 2.3 pro or later to work properly. But I was thinking if it isnt possible, could I upgrade it to 2.3 and than to expression engine? But see the whole reason I am doing this on another server is to make sure there wont be any issues rather than just install expression engine and have all the user information and what not be all screwed up. Just incase you know what I mean? Which is why I am installing Pro on a “test” server to make sure everything runs smoothly and I can change the templates and what not before I go doing it for real...know what I am saying? Is there any guarantee that if I upgrade it to expression engine with 2.21 that there wont be any database issues? Or upgrade to 2.3 than expression engine that everything will copy over fine?

OK, slowly. You have pM Pro 2.21 installed. EE needs it’s import data in 2.3 format, though. I have never worked with pM Pro myself, so I can’t say how the data format between version 2.21 and 2.3 differs. Anyway, if you must install pM Pro instead of upgrading an existing installation, why take 2.3? The lates version is 2.4.1.

Is there any guarantee that if I upgrade it to expression engine with 2.21 that there wont be any database issues? Or upgrade to 2.3 than expression engine that everything will copy over fine?

There are never any guarantees, but I don’t think how a backup of both your database and your files can’t keep the risk at a tolerable minimum.

Thanks for responding! So I need 2.3 to upgrade to EE? I don’t have the newest 2.4.1, just 2.3. Plus before I upgrade it I want to be able to mess with the templates alot since I have never used Pmachine Pro or EE before...so im basically starting from the beginning smile But I am getting this error, so when I go to phpmyadmin, it says my user “create new database: no Privileges “ does that mean I dont have read, write and drop capability?

Well, I wouldn’t call it “Upgrade”, more like a change of systems. EE is totally different from pM Pro. But yes, from what I read, you need at least pM Pro 2.3 to switch over to EE. You can download the newest pM Pro here for free.

I would advise against “messing with the templates” (which you can’t export to EE anyway, by the way): If you want to work with EE, which is clearly the way to go, NOT having been exposed to pM Pro is actually an advantage, so you don’t have to “unlearn” everything you did there.

Let me repeat: pM Pro and EE are totally different programs.

I gotcha, so if im going to use EE I should upgrade from pmachine pro 2.21 to 2.4 than to EE? And is the EE templates easy to customize? as far as design/layout? I plan to use EE forum as well since they want to keep their forum. The members from the previous pmachine pro, are they easily restore-able with the database restore...or?

That’s what I’d do, yes, if the old data is worth saving. Yes, EE’s templates are very easy to customise. Basically, it’s a regular (X)HTML page (with PHP, if you wish) with a few EE tags in the right places. You have ultimate control over design & layout.

According to the docs, members can be imported, yes.
